As I started transitioning to green beauty (not 100% there though, I still buy makeup from mainstream brands as long as they are cruelty-free), I was worried that I wouldn’t find a liquid liner as good as Kat Von D’s or Stila’s. I am thankful for the local NorCal grocery chain, Nugget Market, because some of the locations sell green beauty products from brands such as Zoya, Pacifica or Andalou Naturals (though their beauty aisle is not as extensive as Whole Foods’)
Zuzu Luxe is one of the sister brands of Gabriel Cosmetics, and you can find both products alongside each other in organic/healthy grocery stores. I tested it out on my wrist and loved how pigmented it is for a natural beauty brand, so I decided to purchase it. The price isn’t too bad either at $15.60 at 1 oz., especially for green beauty.
While the Zuzu Luxe Liquid Eyeliner comes in eight shades, I decided to get the classic matte shade “Raven” (they also have a shade in a pearl black formula). At first, I had a love-hate relationship with this eyeliner. I found that it dried way too quickly and was worried that the pigmentation would be gone in a few weeks from the time I bought it in March. I then realized that I needed to shake the bottle (the packaging is similar to Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eyeliner in which the applicator is attached to the cap).
The brush tip is small, sharp and thin, which makes it easy to control and ideal for beginners.
Overall, this eyeliner isn’t perfect but has some great qualities that make me consider repurchasing. It’s easy to use, affordable and insanely pigmented, which makes the green beauty world seem less intimidating. And yes, it does rival some of the holy grail mainstream eyeliners. You can order it online here or at your local grocery store.
