Dose of Colors is one of those brands that have been on my radar since I entered the beauty world. I dug their “cool girl” vibe, and the fact that they were sold online only (before Ulta started selling their products) made me want them even more. All the beauty influencers raved about their liquid lipsticks.

So in 2016 I took the plunge and purchased 2 of their shades, “Brick and “Berry Me”, yet hardly was touched in 2017. Later in 2017, Ulta announced that they were going to start selling Dose of Colors products. When I went to the local one, there was a stand near the door full of their liquid lipsticks. I found the shade “Cork”, which I’ve seen online before but never ordered it because I was afraid of how it would look so weird on me. Well there it was, and I tested it out and fell in love. Unfortunately, it was sold out so I had to come back on another day to buy it.

I’m not gonna lie, the packaging of the liquid lipsticks won me over. I love the semi-opaque tube with the white cap and silver band. Their logo is clean and minimalistic too. The tubes are shorter and chubbier than the average liquid lipstick, so the applicator is on the fat side. But let’s talk about the more important part, the lipstick formula themselves…

Like with most liquid lipsticks, you can expect some discomfort and dryness. These are no exception, but I don’t have a problem wearing them at all, and I have super-dry lips. They glide on smoothly and last throughout eating (though after lunch, I reapply just to be on the safe side). However, because I still struggle with dry lips, at the end of the day I find that the skin off my lips is mostly gone and I have to put a heavy duty lip mask to help heal them. It’s not as painful as it sounds: I’ve dealt with way worse liquid lipsticks (such as the ColourPop Ultra Mattes or the NYX Lip Lingeries). You should also know that there is a sweet vanilla scent to these.

Brick

The shade “brick” is exactly what it sounds like: a warm, brick red with brown undertones. This is my favorite shade out of the 3, and I probably have 5 other shades similar to this (MAC lipstick in “Retro”, Kat von D liquid lipstick in “Plath”). I just rediscovered this (see what happens when you organize and don’t impulse buy?) and have been wearing this to work for a bit of color without going overboard with my makeup. This is a fall beauty staple, but I could wear this all year.

Berry Me

Though I was most excited about this shade and wanting this the most, I feel a bit “meh” about it. I love plum and berry lipsticks if they are on the deeper side. But this shows up as more Barney-ish to me. Maybe I can give this another chance and try it on a night out! There is also another shade called Berry Me 2, which is more pink, but I can’t see myself pulling that one off.

Cork

If you have olive/tan skin you HAVE to get this. It’s a medium yellow brown. I always have a hard time finding nude lip for my skin tone, but this is stunning for everyday wear or to tone down a smoky eye. Forget about the other nude shades (Truffle or Stone), you need this instead.

I recommend pairing these with a lipliner to avoid bleeding and messy application. Other than that and the typical annoying dryness from liquid lipsticks, these are beautiful and another staple to a lipstick lover’s makeup drawer.

By the way, I did end up ordering 3 of the new Dose of Colors lip glosses, but I had a TON of Ulta Rewards points so I used those to buy them instead of ordering out of pocket. So expect a review from those in the next upcoming weeks!
