I have a love-hate relationship with liquid lipsticks as they tend to dry my lips out out, but there are certain brands worth suffering for. For me, Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are one of them.

I have a handful of Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, and I love the shade range, pigmentation and longevity of them. And honestly, they are not the most painful or drying liquid lipsticks on me: as long as I exfoliate and wear lip balm before hand, I can wear them with ease. If there’s any liquid lipstick I hate, it’s the Ultra Mattes from ColourPop.

Kat von D recently released 4 new liquid lipsticks in collaboration with Farm Sanctuary, an American organization dedicated to protecting animals against abuse in factory farming. They have saved thousands of farm animals in their sanctuaries in Watkin Glens, NY, NorCal (Orland) and SoCal (the LA area).

Here’s a blurb about Farm Sanctuary on the box:

“For every lipstick sold, 20% of the retail price will go to Farm Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization that rescues and protects animals from cruelty, inspires the way society views and treats farm animals, and promotes compassionate vegan living. Visit farmsanctuary.org to learn more.”

Each shade is named after 4 different animals from the Farm Sanctuary and there is a story behind each of them. I picked up the shade “Hilda”, a terracotta brick nude. Hilda is a sheep and the very first animal to arrive at Farm Sanctuary.

The 3 other shades/animals include:

  • Thumbelina (coral red), a chicken who was rescued from a trucking crate that tumbled onto the highway.
  • Bruno (metallic deep blue), a cow who Farm Sanctuary rescued after falling off of a speeding truck.
  • Julia (peachy pink), a pig who was rescued from a factory farm.

I was in Sephora, and they only had Hilda and Thumbelina in stock (surprisingly, Bruno is an insanely popular shade and hard to get). I swatched Hilda and loved how it looked, so I went ahead and bought it! I also swatched Thumbelina, but I did not purchase it because it looked similar to another shade, Project Chimps (another Kat von D liquid lipstick that released in 2016 in which a portion of the proceeds were donated to Project Chimps, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing chimpanzees from being tested at private research labs).

Hilda is a terracotta brick nude with some reddish undertones. I love this shade so much! As a tan skinned woman, I find it incredibly different to find nudes that show up on my lips or don’t make me look washed out. I find that a lot of nudes tend to be more cool-toned (especially with the new greige trend). This shade is perfect for everyday wear, or on a night out. It’s similar to another KVD shade, Plath (one of my new favorite shades), only browner. I wore this on New Year’s Eve after removing the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint, because I already had a dramatic eye makeup look and a bold red lip would’ve been a bit too much. The Hilda liquid lipstick toned down my eye makeup a little bit 🙂

I highly recommend this shade for all skin tones, but especially for those with medium–deep skin. When you buy it, you are also supporting an organization that saves thousands of farm animals across the country. Hurry though, it’s limited edition! Thankfully, Hilda and Thumbelina are still available on Sephora (Bruno and Julia are sold out completely).
