You’re probably familiar with NYX’s Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks, but they have now released a version in lip crayon form!
The NYX Lip Lingerie Push-Up Long-Lasting Lipstick takes the same 12 shades from the liquid lipsticks as a retractable lip crayon. It retails slightly more expensive at $9 (the liquid lipsticks are $7). It comes with a sharpener at the end too.
These lipsticks have a minty feel upon applying them, and I think it’s from one of the ingredients, menthyl lactate. It is used as a cooling or flavoring agent in most cosmetics and perfumes. And while I don’t really care for the bee-stung look (never ever in a million years will I get injections), these lipstick have a plumping effect.
I purchased two shades, Exotic (warm mahogany red) and Seduction (Reddish Brown Nude). Seduction actually looks more peachy-brownish nude to me and I’ve been wearing it on days where I’m not feeling a bright lip but still want to add color to complete my makeup. I actually have been using these two lip colors exclusively everyday even though I have a bajillion other lip colors. As I’m getting older (30 next month!!), I’m learning to embrace a muted nude color. Now that’s not to say I won’t be rocking a bright pink or a vampy red this fall. I also have always have the hardest time find a good nude color for my skin tone.
I also had the liquid version of Exotic, but it wasn’t as dark as this version. It was too pink for me, whereas this version shows up more as a brick red.
The original liquid lipstick versions of these were painfully drying. There was a reason I never mentioned using those since I got them. But these? They’re still pretty drying, but the creamy matte formula makes it more comfortable. And they last the whole day too! (I do reapply in the afternoon to keep it fresh).
If there’s one thing I will say, it’s that the packaging is not the best. The cap is so freaking hard to open and if you’re not careful, the crayon breaks easily. But what can you expect if they’re only $9?
For the value, these are great products to add to your beauty arsenal. In my opinion, NYX makes some of the best drugstore lip glosses and lipsticks. You can find these on their website, Ulta, or a drugstore near you.
