The Sephora Holiday Sale is a perfect time to stock up on some of your favorite beauty essentials and shop for your family and friends. What if I told you that you can find travel-friendly items? And no, I’m not just talking about minis. You can find travel-friendly beauty products that will help make your life easier for your next trip.
The sale starts on October 28 and ends on November 7. Depending on your status, the sale for you might start a little later. For example, I am a VIB (Very Important Beauty Insider) member, meaning that the sale starts for me on November 1 and it’s 15% off. Rouge members can start shopping on October 28 with a 20% discount.

What is the Sephora Beauty Insider Program and how do I sign up?
The Sephora Beauty Insider Program is a rewards program where you can accumulate points for every purchase and redeem them for rewards. You also get other cool perks like a birthday gift, free shipping, and exclusive access to product launches and events.
There are three different tiers in the Beauty Insider Program. Anyone can sign up to be an Insider for free. To earn VIB status, you must spend $350 for the year, and $1000 to earn Rogue status. While you can benefit as an Insider, being a VIB and/or Rogue member grants you more perks such as earlier access to sales like this one!
For every U.S. or Canadian dollar you spend, you earn 1 point (and this varies based on the country you live in). Sometimes Sephora offers extra bonus points at any given day for Insiders!
Can I earn points from Sephora in Kohl’s?
Yes! You can earn points as a Beauty Insider on the website, in-store, Sephora in Kohl’s, and Instacart!
How often does Sephora have a sale?
Twice a year, usually once in the fall (like this particular sale) weeks before Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Then there’s another sale in the Spring, usually early/mid-April.
What other sale do I need to know about?
In addition to the discounts listed, SEPHORA Collection (their very own in-house brand of makeup and skincare) is also 30% off! A lot of the stuff is good quality at a decent price, and some are dupes of the more expensive cult classics.
How do you determine if a product is “travel-friendly”?
A lot of this is based on my experience with products I have bought as a beauty enthusiast (and a former beauty blogger) and research (looking at product reviews). I look at different factors—is the packaging messy, causing the product to leak everywhere? Is it easy to pack or does it take up too much space in your carry-on? Can you get a face palette or cream formulas rather than separate blush, bronzer, and highlighter?
Here are a few makeup packing hacks and tips for your carry-on to get through TSA smoothly and make sure nothing leaks and crumbles!
Sephora Sale Recommendations for the travel bug
Travel-friendly makeup
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
She’s pricey, but she is easy to pack and isn’t messy, she gives that natural “your skin but better” skin. The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick is also easy to apply with your fingers; no brush needed!
ILIA The Necessary Eyeshadow Palette in Warm Nude
I’ve tried so many eyeshadow palettes, but I don’t use all the shades in most of them. For this ILIA palette, I use every single shade. It is much more stunning in person. As a BIPOC who is always on the lookout for inclusive products and brands, I can assure you that it looks amazing on all skin tones. Also, the palette is small enough that you can chuck this in your carry-on or purse!
Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara
I’ve never loved a mascara as much as I absolutely love this one. It lengthens, curls, and volumizes my lashes without making them clumpy, and it’s so hard to find a mascara that does the job! It is pretty long-wearing without drying them out completely like most waterproof mascaras do. Not only that, but it’s suited for those who have sensitive eyes and wear contact lenses like myself. It’s also ophthalmologist tested! Even though this mascara is $20, you can get the mini for $11 (which is what I do). After all, you use up mascara every 3 months, so why not save while doing so?
Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel
This has been my trusty brow baby for years. It’s no-fuss, I just brush it on my brows and go, and it “completes” my look, giving me fuller-looking brows.
Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer
I know you aren’t supposed to rely on tinted moisturizers, BB creams, or foundations with SPF for sun protection, but it’s better than nothing. Obviously you’re going to want to wear sunscreen underneath. It’s oil-free and gives a demi-matte finish, but I have dry skin and I have no problem wearing it. This is perfect for summer when you don’t want a layer of foundation weighing down on you. I wore this the whole time during my Hawaii trip, and my skin looked radiant with a hint of coverage. If you don’t wear foundation, I highly recommend this!
Smashbox Cali Contour Palette
Now, if you do prefer powders over liquids/creams/gels, the Smashbox Cali Contour Palette should be in your arsenal. You got your highlighters, blushes, and bronzers in matte and pearlescent form. You can get the light/medium or medium/dark palettes, so its suited for anyone of all skin tones. You can also use this not only for your face but also for your eyes, saving you from packing an extra eyeshadow palette.
Rare Beauty Blot & Glow Touch Up Kit
Another innovative product perfectly made for travel, this kit comes with 100 sheets of blotting paper and a powder-infused puff. That helps if you’re worried about getting loose powder everywhere. These are the things that will help keep oil and sweat at bay throughout the day. The powder is said to soften, blur, and mattify your face while the sheets blot the oils out. Again, you can chuck this easily in your purse!
Travel-friendly skincare
Finding travel-friendly skincare is a little bit more challenging because everyone’s skin is different. Skincare is such a personal subject, and one product doesn’t always fit all. That said, here are the following items from the Sephora 2022 sale I recommend for your next trip.
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm
This won’t spill the way that cleansing oils and micellar waters will. It still counts as a liquid, so you can buy the mini size and pack it in your carry-on, or get the regular size and transfer it to a toiletry container or pack it in your checked bag (if you do that). This balm feels so good on your skin, smoothing it as you take off all your makeup and gunk at the end of the day. It’s suited for all skin tones too!
Biossance Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the most important skincare item you need, and I admit that I could do better in this area myself. This zinc-based sunscreen from Biossance is broad spectrum, meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. The squalane is the star ingredient that provides extra moisture without the grease. Did I mention that it’s also reef-safe?
Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray
This mist is a dream for those with sensitive skin! It’s pH-balancing and contains redness-fighting ingredients, while clearing and softening the skin. It’s also refreshing on a scorching hot day.
Peace Out Under-Eye Patches
Fight tired, puffy eyes and dark circles with these deliciously cooling patches—no fridge required! Caffeine is present to help “depuff” the under-eyes while niacinamide brightens the area, and hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin. This is amazing to put during a long flight.
The Original MakeUp Eraser
I can’t get enough of this face towel when it comes to removing my makeup. Not only is it environmentally friendlier than disposable makeup wipes, but it’s also much better than sensitive skin. You just need to soak in water and erase away. I also especially love adding cleanser to it.
Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask
Having chapped lips is the worst, and being in a plane can aggravate that. If your lips are prone to peeling like mine, you need this to hydrate and nourish those puckers while you sleep. Key ingredients for moisture include coconut oil, shea butter, and murumuru seed butter. It’s also filled with berries for antioxidants to smooth out fine lines.
Travel-friendly haircare
Like skincare, haircare is a delicate and personal topic. Each and every individual has different hair textures and reactions to different products. What might work for me might not be the best product for you and vice versa. I will do my best to recommend travel-friendly hair products that are practical and beneficial for your mane.
Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Post Workout Dry Shampoo Mist
Dry shampoo is a lifesaver for those on the go and might not have access to a shower immediately. It’s also great to spray some on after landing to freshen up. It can cover up that grease and bring back life to your hair. Because this dry shampoo is designed for your post-workout sesh, it can withstand the sweatiest strands from touring a new destination on a muggy day for hours (obviously this doesn’t replace washing your hair).
Ouai Detangling Leave-in Conditioner
There’s nothing worse than walking around with frizzy hair no matter how much you brushed and styled it; that’s the story of my life at the moment. While there are things you can do to combat frizz, leave-in conditioner helps smooth your stands out. Best of all? No rinsing out necessary!
Kitsch Satin Pillowcase
Sleeping with a satin pillowcase is one of the best things to do to keep your hair healthy, shiny, and frizz-free. Plus, it’s one of the easiest things to pack! Not just that, it’s amazing for your skin and there is nothing better than going to bed with the silky feel against your face. I love the Kitsch pillowcases because they are more affordable than the other ones on the market.
Aquis Waffle Hair Turban
Drying your hair with a regular towel can cause breakage and frizz due to the rough material. One solution? A microfiber towel that will absorb the water and dry your hair faster than a regular towel or a blow dryer, while also keeping your hair healthy. This is also a genius product because there is a button on the front, and a loop on the back, and as you are wrapping your hair, you secure both sides keeping the towel in place.
Travel-friendly beauty tools
Aside from your makeup, skincare, and haircare, you are going to need other tools to help aid you during your trips!
Sephora Collection Complete Brush Set
You don’t need expensive brushes for your travels or even everyday life! This brush set will do just the trick. You can bring everything and still have room in your toiletry kit, or you can pick and choose what to pack depending on your destination.
Sephora Collection Solid Brush and Sponge Cleaner
I love cleaning my makeup brushes and sponges with a solid soap instead of a liquid. I feel like it cleans them way better, and also this will be super easy to chuck in your toiletry kit. You also don’t have to worry about it leaking everywhere! It also comes with a textured silicone pad to help with even deeper cleaning.
Sephora Collection Supplement Case
If you take medications, you’re probably familiar with the large cases that have a slot for each day. While I always recommend those, this case is nice to have to put in your purse when you are out and about and need the meds you will be taking on that particular day. It makes it so much easier than lugging your large cases!
Sephora Collection Hanging Makeup Bag Organizer
Sometimes so-called travel makeup bags can be so big and bulky and end up taking too much space. And when you’re staying in a small room, it’s going to be hard to figure out where to put the bags. But with this bag, you can easily hang it on a hook or towel rack. It has multiple pockets for easy storage, and even pockets for your brushes!
